Who We Are
About Us
Welcome to Seher
SEHER was borne out of our realisation that women from marginalised communities are increasingly robbed of their rights. We use technology and knowledge systems to aid them in achieving reproductive health goals. Menstrual care, safe motherhood, use of contraceptives, access to safe abortion, and overall health are our focal areas.
All of it began in 2019-20 when the Centre for Health and Social Justice, a Delhi-based resource organisation attempted decentralisation. SEHER, led by Sandhya Gautam, was one of the five units that sprouted from this process. What started as a small unit started growing, and we mentored like-minded organisations. Women professionals who worked with rural populations in the areas of health, nutrition, and gender joined the force. SEHER soon began focusing on women in urban marginalised communities. Finally, in December 2022, SEHER was registered as a women-led not-for-profit working for a healthier, just society.
Why focus on urban marginalised communities? The recent years have been riddled with plummeting employment opportunities and pandemic-induced poverty in villages. As a result, there has been a surge in the relocation of rural population to urban areas, leading to ghettoisation. Their blurred identity renders them invisible in policies, development schemes, and healthcare programs. Upon realising this, we at SEHER, decided to roll up our sleeves and get to work.

We envision a society where all women possess rights and agency, irrespective of differences.
Mission
Our mission is to build leadership capabilities in young women and mobilise collectives working with marginalised women to realise our vision.
